Information about the SDB Boot Camp for New Faculty

This is a new program developed by SDB’s Professional Development and Education Committee member Karen Bennett and SDB Executive Officer Ida Chow, after their participation at a workshop organized by Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Burroughs Wellcome Fund on Scientific Management.  The Boot Camp is designed for untenured faculty and advanced postdoctoral fellows about to enter their first academic position who are interested in: improving their leadership/management skills, learning about model organisms different from those of their research, and learning about teaching and mentoring. 

This Boot Camp is offered by SDB’s PDEC for SDB members in good standing, and has contributions from HHMI and royalty proceeds from SDB’s official journal Developmental Biology.  It will be hosted by the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, under the local coordination of SDB Board member Cathy Krull.  Applications are due April 4, 2006.
