Director of Education at the American Society of Human Genetics

ASHG has established a new position of Director of Education to implement programs to address the vision of genetic literacy in the classrooms as well as in the general public.  The Director will work with the Executive Vice President under the direction of the officers and Board in achieving the goals of ASHG, including making genetics education programs and materials more accessible to all classrooms.

ASHG, the primary professional organization for researchers and clinicians in the field, has a strong commitment to educational goals.  The duties of the Director will include:

  • Provide staffing for the Information & Education Committee
  • Initiate & enhance partnerships with organizations focused on teaching science in grade K-12
  • Enhance capabilities of the Mentor Network of volunteer members
  • Plan professional development programs
  • Procure funding to implement programs

The ideal candidate will have an MS or PhD in genetics or a related field and experience in developing educational programs and materials.  Skills required include outstanding writing and oral communications, grant writing, and demonstrated ability to lead projects.

Editor-in-Chief of The FASEB Journal (The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology)

The position of Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of The FASEB Journal will become available as early as July 1, 2005, but needs to be filled no later than January 1, 2006. A search committee has been appointed by the FASEB Board and the FASEB Publications Committee to initiate the search for a distinguished scientist to head this interdisciplinary journal. Candidates should have a Ph.D., M.D., or an equivalent academic degree, broad experience in experimental biological and biomedical sciences, and prior experience in editorial activities related to these scientific fields. The appointment would be for a five-year term, with potential reappointment. The EIC would report to
the Board of Directors of FASEB through the FASEB Publications and Communications Committee but he or she would have extensive flexibility in selecting the Associate Editors, the Editorial Board, and future directions for the Journal. Candidates interested in the position
