About the Developmental Biology Cinema The Developmental Biology Cinema grew out of a breakfast meeting at the 13th International Congress of Developmental Biology held in Snowbird, Utah, July, 1997. The aim of this project is to get video sequences of developing embryos (organisms), and experimental techniques, from the developmental biologist's lab to the eyeballs of interested individuals in a user-friendly and inexpensive form. Laurie Iten and Scott Gilbert could be called the "originators" of this project. The stars of this project are the embryos; the producers are the developmental biologists who give us permission to digitize their video sequences for the Web, and to be downloaded for use in the classroom. The Society for Developmental Biology provides these digital video sequences for educational use, only. We put "small" versions of digitized video sequences of developing organisms (with brief supporting text descriptions of the sequences) on the SDB Web site. We also build large QuickTime movies that are approximately 520 X 420 pixels. The small movies on the SDB Web site are fine for one person to watch digital videos of developing organisms; the large movies are for projection in the classroom. We welcome your comments and suggestions. The DB Cinema Team
