The
7th Boot Camp for
New Faculty will be held
July 19-20
at Reed College for
advanced postdocs and
untenured faculty. The
program will
introduce best practices
on effective teaching,
mentoring, and grant
writing. Resources for
developmental biology
courses and course-based
research experiences
will be explored
including hands-on
sessions with
established and emerging
model organisms. The
Boot Camp
application deadline is
Monday, May 14. Current 2018 SDB
membership is required
for eligibility.
The SDB Professional Development and Education
Committee reinvented the
John Doctor
Education Prize (formally a best education
poster award) as a best education video
award. We challenge SDB members to produce
short videos on their approach to teaching
a developmental biology topic of their
choosing
to an undergraduate, graduate, or lay public
audience. Individuals or teams may
participate. See guidelines

exhibit “Development,
Growth, and
Regeneration” featured
developing fish and frog
embryos and highlighted
how diverse animals
including zebrafish and
planaria are able to
regrow lost body parts.

for broad impact on the developmental biology community.
