Assistant Professor of Biology, University of South Carolina Upstate, Spartanburg, SC

The University of South Carolina Upstate invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology starting August 2019. Teaching responsibilities include majors-level Genetics and additional courses in their area of expertise. We seek a broadly trained teacher-scholar dedicated to engaging undergraduates in research. Area of research specialization is flexible and may include Conservation Genetics, Developmental Biology/Evolutionary Developmental Biology, Genomics, or Population Genetics.

The person selected for this position will be expected to:

  1. Teach 12 contact hours per semester and advise students
  2. Establish a productive research program that involves mentoring undergraduates
  3. To engage in service to the institution, the community, and the profession. 
  4. Candidates should have excellent communication skills.

Must have a Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field by August 15, 2019.

Preferred Qualifications: postdoctoral research experience; relevant teaching and research mentorship experience; training in or use of techniques that increase student engagement, such as experiential learning, active learning, or service learning.
