The developmental biology community lost one of its pioneers, Eric H. Davidson, on September 1, 2015. His research focused on the systems biology of gene regulatory networks during development and the evolution of these networks. He was the Norman Chandler Professor of Cell Biology at the California Institute of Technology and the 2007 SDB-Developmental Biology Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. See his obituary here.
Current Biology published a nice interview with Davidson in 2012.
Developmental Biology published an In Memoriam by Dave McClay.
