SDB 70th Annual Meeting Report

The meeting held at the Hyatt Regency, Chicago, IL,  July 21 - 25, 2011 brought together over 900 participants from the USA/Canada and 27 other countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Poland, Puerto Rico, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom and Uruguay.  There were 363 students and 553 full and postdoctoral registrants; 730 were SDB members and 186 non-members who became members after the meeting.  A total of 631 abstracts and 548 posters were submitted.

This year's SDB awards were given to: Ruth Lehmann of the New York University School of Medicine and Howard Hughes Medical Institute for the Edwin G. Conklin Medal,  Peter A. Lawrence of the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom) for the Developmental Biology-SDB Lifetime Achievement Award, and Mary S. Tyler of the University of Maine for the Viktor Hamburger Outstanding Educator Prize. 

SDB past-president Gail Martin received the 2011 FASEB Excellence in Science Award and gave her award lecture at this meeting.
