SDB 72nd Annual Meeting in Cancun

Registration is open for the  72nd Annual SDB Meeting to be held June 16-20, 2013 in Cancun, Mexico in conjunction with the 17th International Congress of Developmental Biology! The abstract submission deadline is March 15 and the early meeting registration deadline is April 1.  The Hotel reservations deadline at the congress rate is March 15. Latin American-Caribbean Student/Postdoc and Faculty Scholarship applications are due March 15.  Travel award applications for students, postdocs, and teaching faculty are due March 15. Renew your membership  today for reduced registration rates, eligibility for consideration for one of 80 short talk slots, and application for travel awards!


Satellite Symposium of the 72nd Annual SDB Meeting

SDB is sponsoring Making and breaking the left-right axis: Laterality in development and disease, a Satellite Symposium of the 72nd Annual Meeting, June 15-16, 2013 in Cancun, Mexico. Additional speakers will be selected from submitted abstracts.  Organizers Marnie Halpern and Oliver Hobert strongly encourage students and postdocs to apply. 2013 SDB Award Winners

The SDB Board of Directors selected the following recipients for the 2013 SDB Awards. The presentations and award lectures will take place at the 72nd Annual SDB Meeting in Cancun.

Developmental Biology-SDB Lifetime Achievement Award: John F. Fallon, University of Wisconsin

Viktor Hamburger Outstanding Educator Prize: William Wood, University of Colorado, Boulder


Choose Development! Summer Research Program Seeks Students and Mentors

The NSF–funded Choose Development! summer research training program is seeking mentors committed to increasing the number of underrepresented minorities  and persons with disabilities entering doctoral programs in pursuit of research careers in developmental biology.  Apply to be an SDB Academic Mentor and host an SDB Fellow in your lab.  Encourage eligible undergraduates to apply.  Deadline for Mentor and Student applications is March 1.  Learn more here.


Upcoming SDB Regional Meetings

Seven SDB regional meetings will be held throughout the US this year (six this spring and one in the fall).  Regional meetings are an excellent opportunity for students and postdocs to present their research and give short talks.  See upcoming events below for meeting dates and locations.


2012 Hilde Mangold Postdoctoral Symposium Winners Attend SEBD Meeting

MBL Embryology Course

Applications are being accepted for the 2013 Embryology Course at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.  The 6-week course accepts 24 students from around the world. Course directors Alejandro Sánchez Alvarado and Richard Behringer strongly encourage outstanding graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to apply.  Deadline is February 8, 2013.  Learn more here.

  • SDB members can apply for non-SDB meeting grants to fund member-organized conferences central to developmental biology.  Deadline: May 1, 2013.
  • SDB members are eligible for travel awards through the FASEB MARC Program
  • SDB will provide travel assistance for Latin American investigators to visit a host lab in the US or Canada to learn new techniques or approaches in developmental biology with the SDB Latin American Short Visit Grant.  Proposal deadline: May 1, 2013.
